The Exhibition 'Dynamic Realism - The Art of Abbey Walmsley' at Gallery 27 on Cork Street, MayfairDynamic Realism exhibition from inside, first floor

The exhibition: 'Dynamic Realism - The Art of Abbey Walmsley' took place at Gallery 27 on Cork Street in March and showcased the largest collection of Abbey Walmsley's works exhibited to the general public, and brought the realist genre of Dynamic Realism to a broader group of discerning collectors. The business model used for the exhibition effectively brought a fresh approach to buying and commissioning meticulously crafted works of art, and appealed to those wishing to invest in art with a unique and timeless quality, that also support philanthropy.

Alongside artworks that had already been produced, it was also a venue where commissionable projects were discussed directly with Abbey. Clients had an insight into how dynamic realism is used to bring patrons visions ‘alive,’ whilst providing significant funds to their chosen philanthropic cause.

The exhibition launch evening featured guest speaker David Lesperance.

Within the article Abbey answers the following questions:

Can you explain what Dynamic Realism is and why it is different from other genres of realism?

Does Dynamic Realism only cover wildlife and equestrian related subjects?

What was the driving force behind the development of your technique?

You say that a relationship with a high-end gallery can be detrimental to artistic quality and development, and this impacts both collectors and artists negatively, can you explain this?

What inspires clients to collect Dynamic Realism?

Where will your next research trip take you, and what will you be focussing on?

What can people expect when visiting the exhibition?

Abbey hopes the readers will find her answers interesting and insightful.

Fieldwork in Jordan

Abbey travelled out to Cyprus and Jordan in February 2010. She worked with the Jordan Living History Association and the Roman Army and Chariot Experience team in the hippodrome in Jerash, and gained an understanding of chariot racing, studying their movement and drama. Abbey will be returning to Jordan to have the pleasure of working with Mr Said Huneidi owner of The Royal Institute of Arabian Horsemanship, that will allow her to gain insight into the art of Furussiya, cavalry skills used by the Mamluks (13th– 16th c.). Abbey had the pleasure of meeting Mahmoud A.Bdour, Oryx Project Manager for The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN). We spent a fantastic day tracking down Arabian Oryx with the help of local Bedouin supporters. The fieldwork photography Abbey took will be used by the RSCN to spread awareness of the Oryx and to produce artworks depicting this Arabian cultural Icon. She hopes that from this trip she can successfully bring the Jordanian culture and wildlife 'alive' using Dynamic Realism.
